Barking 3 Enfield Town 2

A disappointing result in Essex, and still no clean sheet in pre-season friendlies thus far; two more to come to complete preparations for the ’20-21 competitive start at home to Lewes on 19th September.

Town took the lead in the 20th minute.  Billy Bricknell fed fellow striker Shaun Okojie who did well to ride two challenges before firing low to the goalkeeper’s left and just inside the post.

The Blues drew level three minutes later through former Towner Billy Jones, when he picked up the ball on the home left hand corner of the box and coolly slotted past Nathan McDonald under little real pressure.

Approaching the half-hour mark, Town were exposed at the back again when, following a build up during which the ball was switched from left to right, a trialist found himself in acres of space to beat McDonald in a one-on-one situation.

It was 2-2 approaching the break – Billy Bricknell with a characteristic long-range lob over the keeper following a good break that involved Okojie providing an option to Bricknell’s right, but the clinical finish, reminiscent of Town’s opener at Folkestone last season, was impressive – from about 40 yards out.

Half-time: 2-2

There were the usual half-time substitutions and chances were created at both ends throughout the second period. But the deciding goal was claimed by the hosts four minutes in, when a trialist rammed home a loose ball after a teammate’s shot in the inside right channel had been parried by McDonald.

Recent acquisition Neville Nzembela came on for Shaun Okojie with about twenty minutes remaining.

Town line up: McDonald (Bonfield 70), Mubiayi (Trialist 46), Pepera, Thomas, Weatherstone (Urquhart 46), Gyebi, Kiangebeni, Youngs, Bricknell (Asare 80), Okojie (Nzembela 70), Della-Verde.
