Bishop’s Stortford Preview

Our next opponents in the Isthmian Premier on Tuesday 16th November are Bishop’s Stortford, as we hit the road again for a third successive away trip in the league.

Match Preview

The Blues currently sit in 8th spot in the league, having taken 23 points from 14 games. However, they are one of the form teams in the division, having taken three wins and two draws from their last five games and conceding just three times. They overcame Chipstead 2-1 in the FA Trophy to advance to the next round over the weekend; and in Jake Cass, Frankie Merrifield and Ryan Charles, the Blues have a strike force which has notched up 18 goals already this campaign.

A couple of losses aside, their home form has been very decent; with Lewes, FA Trophy holders Hornchurch and Margate all having left Woodside Park empty-handed so far this season. This will be Town’s fifth visit there in the last two years – our only previous win came in the final game played in the 2019-20 league season, when Shaun Okojie’s goal pinched a 1-0 away win. Woodside also staged the last meeting between the sides, as a Merrifield hattrick consigned Town to a 4-1 defeat.

Town’s only win came back in March 2020, courtesy of Shaun Okojie’s goal… and former Towner Aaron Greene’s penalty miss

Travel

The game is at BSFC’s Woodside Park stadium, Dunmow Road, Hertfordshire, CM23 5RG.

Bishop’s Stortford Station can be reached by train with services from Liverpool Street. It may be easier to travel by Overground from Southbury to Cheshunt, where you can change for services to Bishop’s Stortford. From the station, the ground is a half-hour walk, though buses 508 or 509 from Riverside (Stop R) near the railway station can cut down on walking time. Both buses will be in the direction of Stansted Airport – alight at Birchwood High School [508] or Shortcroft [509] if you prefer a shorter journey on foot.

If travelling by car, leave the M11 at Junction 8 (Birchanger Green Services), take the A120 towards Bishop’s Stortford and take the first exit at the next roundabout onto the A1250 – still heading towards Bishop’s Stortford. The turning for Woodside Park will be on the right, and the stadium will be at the bottom of the road. Car parking is available for £2 at the ground. Please be aware that this fills up quickly.
